The story is about four sisters all named after flowers, who while they were young suffered sexual abuse by their step father. The sisters who try to avoid facing the past, blame each other becuase the is easier. Sisters have been avoiding home and mother for many years. What is at the root of the story is that no one wants to deal with the actual problem- the abuse because it is too painfulf so they deflect.
They deal with a symptom of the problem. Instead of dealing with the abuse, they lay blame and throw around guilt. The second oldest was able to escape the family at a young age, but not before she became pregnant. She aborted the baby and that caused her some issues as well. All the sister resent eachother, so they are astranged and only come together when they have to clear their mother's estate. Each hopes that this purging and agreed coming together will allow them to finally break free of the MUCK she has been covered in all her life.
